Is your driveway in need of some tender loving care? Do your paving stones look like they need a good scrub? As warmer weather approaches, now is the perfect time to give your driveway a spring clean so read on and discover how to clean your driveway

Why should I clean my drive?

Enhance the look of your home – The front garden and driveway is often one of the most forgotten features of any home. With regular cleaning, you can rid your driveway of stains, dirt and grime. This will restore the looks of your property.

Long lasting driveway – If you allow mud and dirt to build up on your driveway, particularly if you have block paving, weeds will grow. Weeds can damage driveways because they can expand cracks. By removing dirt and excess vegetation/weeds, you can save on future repair bills.

Safety hazard – Mud and grime, when combined with rain, can make surfaces slippery. Remove any slip hazards by giving your driveway a good clean.

Enhance your kerb appeal – When selling your home, your driveway and garden is one of the first things that potential buyers see. Keeping it clean and attractive could increase your chances of getting a higher offer.

Cleaning your drive can be messy and time consuming but with the right tools, you can have a clean driveway in no time at all.

When should I clean my drive?

Remove mud and stains from your drive as soon as you see them. Lots of homeowners choose to wait for warmer weather so a power washer or pressure washer can be used. According to some experts, it is best to choose a cloudy day to clean your driveway because if your driveway dries too quickly, cleaning effectiveness can be compromised. Whatever the weather, if you decide to clean your driveway, easyToolhire has the tools you need.

How should I clean my drive?

The number one method for cleaning a driveway is by using a pressure washer. However, before you pick up the hose pipe and turn the water on, you must sweep the driveway and get rid of any debris and stones.

Read the pressure washer manual to understand which is the best detergent to use for the type of press washer you have, and the job in hand.

Use the pressure washer to remove any small bits of debris that you have not been able to remove with a stiff brush or broom. Then, use your pressure washer, and using your chosen detergent, soak the surface that you want to clean. Allow it to work on the stains for five to ten minutes. You may have to also consider giving the driveway a scrub with the brush or broom. Once you have done this, use the pressure washer to blast your driveway. Power washers are great at removing dirt, as they are 50x more powerful than a standard garden hose. Once you have blasted the driveway, rinse it clean.

General maintenance

If you have a number of vehicles on your driveway, or you have trees in your garden or neighbourhood, your driveway may be exposed to lots of mud and dirt. But with regular maintenance you can keep your driveway in tip top condition.
